Become a Mentor

Sign up as a mentor for Inspiring Brighter Futures

Our volunteers are often telling us that mentoring is one of the most rewarding and life-changing things they’ve ever done.

That’s because becoming an Inspiring Brighter Futures mentor is a rewarding experience that allows you to have a positive, practical impact on the future of another person.

Being a mentor entails guiding and supporting participants through the ‘Onwards & Upwards’ program and connecting with them on a personal level. It’s a wonderfully collaborative process as the mentor walks alongside their participant on their journey. Our mentors also gain huge personal benefits from working so closely with the participants.

Mentor Programs - Term 3, 2022

What are mentors?

Mentors are essential for us to run our programs. Which means they are fundamental to Inspiring Brighter Futures fulfilling its commitment to helping those in our community move their lives onward & upward. We’ve created the Onwards & Upwards program, but it’s our mentors that bring it life.

Our mentors ensure the success of every program by building trust, respect and a connection with each participant. Mentors actively support participants with creating a vision statement, setting and activating goals, discovering their self-worth and planning for a brighter future.

IBFF mentors come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences but share common traits of being kind, patient, friendly, supportive, fun and nurturing. They’re open to an experience that leaves participants feeling fortunate and appreciated – an environment that is often a first for many participants.

New friendships are made, life experience is passed on, and participants are left feeling supported, safe and inspired by their mentor. We welcome new volunteer mentors with open arms.

It provides human connection with others on a level most people don’t experience.

Register your interest in becoming a mentor

It is a requirement that all our Inspiring Brighter Futures mentors have a current blue card.

Can I Mentor?

If you are kind, compassionate, supportive, and willing to dedicate time and have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of a participant, then yes, you sound exactly like the kind of person who would be perfect as an Inspiring Brighter Futures mentor.

No prior mentoring experience is necessary, but you’ll be required to complete our online program as part of our mentor induction process. This ensures you’re prepared and ready to support your participant in the most positive way.

We ask our mentors to volunteer 1 ½ – 2 hours per week for the duration of the program – it’s that easy.

If you’re an employer and have staff who want to become mentors, make it part of your businesses’ social or community engagement and give your employees time off during the day to participate. You’ll often find the flow-on effect to your own business is very positive and beneficial.

Our top ten mentor tips:

  1. Be a positive role model
  2. Share your experiences, mistakes and goals for the future

  5. Be an active listener
  6. Provide helpful feedback
